Just to let you know all know, Lidl are currently selling wood burning irons for £8.00, I got one and the results are very good.

Danish oil, tung oil and gunstock oil are all from the same sort of family of accelerated or catalysed oil finishes. I find Danish oil a bit slow dying, but that may just be the brand I've tried. To get a gloss finish you need to keep applying it over and over again - the first two or three applications will just be soaking into the wood and sealing it. After that you start building up the finish, and the process is just like any other lacquer or paint finish, you need to knock it back with fine grade wet and dry (1000 grade or finer) to get rid of any high spots or inclusions then apply more coats and you'll start to build up a gloss. I use TruOil gunstock oil and love it, as it dries quite quickly (find it at your local gunshop or field sports specialist). You can flat the whole thing down with 0000 wire wool for a satin finish, or can buff it with T-Cut or something like that for a high gloss and finish it with a beeswax based polish. It can give a very high gloss but still sort of feels pretty organic.

Ah I getcha. Once the danish has dried for 24 hours try applying more and rubbing in with very fine sandpaper, repeat a couple of times then wipe off the excess. Lovely and smooth with better shine than danish oil alone.

Hmm... not sure that would work Gary. Why wouldn't you want danish oil? Lovely natural finish!

This is probably a silly questioned but if a piece wood has been Danish oiled can it be lacquered
