Plenty of cheap Chinese ones on eBay... I'm usually more than happy to spend £11 on a set in my local independent music shop.

what's the best place to source tuning heads from? don't really like paying 15quid for a set! i've tried guitar shops for spares etc but inevitably they are broken.  any suggestions?

sad times i feel your pain and hope they catch the scumbags who did this although unlikely you can but hope

As for insurance...stuff like this left unattended in a car never seems to be covered - even with specific cover it's usually very tightly limited. It's a hard lesson, but I see things like this all the time, and that's why when I tour, the car is emptied every night, you just can't be too careful.

John - this is really bad news. It's a tough lesson that Amit had to learn but that doesn't excuse the shit-heads who did this. Highly unlikely that this sort of gear will make it as far south as Medway but I will spread the word throughout the folk/blues community down here. Dare I ask if it was insured?  M.

Thanks for the tipoff about the wood burning irons, David. I got one too. Good value. Well spotted!

Just seen a posting on Facebook from my friend Amit - he played at Manchester Boxstock with Mellow Peaches last year...

From Amit Dattani:

PLEASE READ: My car was broken into on Lime Grove, on the corner of the ORT cafe (Birmingham) tonight between 11.45 and 12.30. All of my equipment was stolen, including an old banjo, a collings acoustic guitar in a hard shell case guitar, and a bag with a stomp board, our Mellow Peaches cd's, an AER acoustic amp and some DI boxes. Please share and give any information if you come across anything that sounds like it could be the above. This stuff is of great sentimental value. Thank you.
This is bad news, and if you are offered any of this gear, do let the police know.
But just to remind everyone, NEVER leave any music gear in an unattended vehicle, never, under any circumstances. Looks like after the gig Amit dropped his stuff in the car, had a chat and a drink before going home...disaster. I'm sure looking back he's thinking how could he have been so rash...gear visible in the car, parked on a quiet side street late a night, and plenty of low life around - bohemian neighbourhood or not, there are plenty of thieving skag heads. Either someone saw it being loaded or just chanced upon it in passing, but in either case, remember folks, it costs a thief nothing to have punt at breaking into your motor.
Amit says sentimental value, but what he doesn't say is it's also over £5000's of gear just for the guitar and amp. Evening all, mind how you go.

Looks good. Let's hear what she sounds like.

Just built my  first Biscuit Tin Guitar.

Great fun using tinsnips instead of a saw.
