well we just met yesterday when he dropped me a line-your Robert Johnson/Aphex Twin analogy is spot on.I listened to his stuff all day yesterday.Cross 2 bare and family tree are my faves.. dudes a quality act for sure.

You speak the truth mightily HB...it's one of those deja vu type moments when I feel like I've just found music that I've been waiting to listen to for years. It's like he's some sort of long lost missing link between Robert Johnson and Aphex Twin. Do you know the guy or just his music?
According to his page at Reverb Nation (http://www.reverbnation.com/freewayjesus) he has a record label so I'm hoping there will be an opportunity to purchase some of his work soon.

Personally, I blame you lot!

After spending a few minutes on here Saturday morning, my CBG is no more. But on the plus side, it's getting a top to bottom rebuild.

So far I've taken the old squire neck and reshapped the headstock (now looks a bit like the Blackmachines headstock........ or a droopy willy). Going to sand the whole thing down and either finish it without the thick poly or relic it so it looks old and nackered. Also thinking of covering the face of the headstock with brown leather.

Found an old plywood SG body in the shed and the neck pocket is a fairly good fit so its all been cut down to fit my new box. I need to do a fair bit more work to get it to fit properly and I'm trying to fit this project in around work and a baby so progress is slow. Hopefully the weather will be good when I get home and I can break out the rasps.

Bought an old 1960's (ish) little suitcase, looks like it could have been a kids for school. It's a fake brown snakeskin jobbery and will look awesome strung up. Not sure what to do about a tail piece and bridge yet but I'm really liking the way that this project is evolving rather than me having to draw it out first (which is what I enjoy most about building these things - I'm an engineer so usually make plans).

Got some old, cheap cream P90's which will go on it, although I might swap the covers for dog-eared ones. I've also got a piezo from a tuner which will be mounted to the top of the box. Not sure if the piezo will be on a switch, push/pull or a blend pot. I'll have to have a look in my box of bits.

Hopfully I can show you progress soon. Work and family are really busy, so you may have to wait for a bit though.

Hi Lefty,
on my resophonic guitars It has always been the norm to use the heaviest strings that you could find, in order to drive the cones. I use Newtone reophonic strings.
The tuning depends on the style of playing. If you are using a non slide playing style may I suggest Chicago tuning (D,G.B.E low to high). You might realise that this is the same as the top 4 strings of a guitar and every guitar chord is available to you, See Baritone ukulele sites. It also helps you a lot if you are performing with 'normal' guitars.

If you are going to be using a slide, use the same tuning but drop the top E down to a D. This gives the standard open G tuning.

Hi there everyone! Hope you don’t mind me asking, I need a little help deciding what gage strings and what tuning I should put on my 4 string resso CBG. I can see you have made one and it looks really cool by the way! I’ve based the scale on a 24.562” scale or 62.4 cm scale in English money, used a lot my Gibson I thing. Any recommendation would be a great help, thanks for your time!!!

I picked one up myself last night as I had been in the market for one and this offer came up at a good time. Having looked around there's nothing comparable at this price.

http://info.diy.com/servlet/cc6?IzbitJQSABQUVrohIkhgxnuHptQJhuVaVUU...;"/>DeWalt DC725 cordless drill for £85 until Monday at B&Q. It was £200, reduced to £100 and they have 15% off everything over £50 this weekend so it's £85 which seems like a bit of a bargain for a DeWalt. http://dewalt.co.uk/ProductImages/imports/EU_Images/Dewalt/1046851_...' />

Only real downside that I could see is that the batteries are fairly low capacity at 1.3Ah, you get two of them. But for my needs that will be just fine.

What scale is it? I've done 4 string resos with tenor banjo, irish tenor and top 4 of open G and D. For tenor tuning you generally go for a pretty short scale..but you can still use the same intervals.;
