Hi, I'm HazelFyrebird, and I'm a wannabe luthier (I feel like I'm standing up at a Builder's Anonymous meeting...) in Virginia. I'm a bit of a lurker, as I've been reading and reading for a while,…Continue

This is not so much of a reintroduction as a rebirth so to speak. I joined Cigar Box Nation many, many years ago when I initially developed an interest in more "primitive" instruments, CBGs, mountain…Continue

Not sure where to post this, so I'll just hang it here and let you all tell me whether this is the right place or not.
Just finished my second guitar. A pastor friend wanted one and I found the old Bible presentation box and thought it might work. He wanted a four string, fretted, electric guitar. I had only built one acoustic, fretless, three-string version, so the learning curve was steep. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Mq_WMMoUtw&feature=youtu.be
Dave, don't leave your wood there.. Leaning up by the fire. You are likely to warp it. I keep mine in normal conditions laying flat propped up a bit with little offcuts. It's not that the wood might warp where you keep it but more to think that after you build the guitar will you keep it in the same conditions.. It might be perfectly made but usually dry. After you build it and it sits in a normal place, it might take on mosture and warp .

etc etc . ill add.- ask your local dollar store for their long stem flower boxes .
as for cost . that depends on where to where . regular post is usually cheapest,.
ps...ups are crooks for international stuff . even if you save , they rape your customers for cod fees and added b.s . at the door .
hope that helps .maybe state the origin and destination so folks close to you .can give you a better idea . ;-)
Hello all I have made a few CBG and my sister was wanting me to send her one and I am wondering what everyone who sells CBG's what they ship them in and the cost to ship them.
I'm going to try sandwiching mahogany together with the grain of the wood running against each other with a metal pole down the middle for my next build. Perhaps you can try something similar?
Hi Dave, I can find mahogany and rosewood in the local wood store here, but i have to be selective because if those woods are not old enough their structure could be change or bend easily after couples of months or years. I already order some piece of hard maple and old mahogany, if I lucky I can get some good old ebony later.
