Not for any particular build I have in mind...just trying to get an idea of what might have worked for someone. I keep thinking that it's complicated, but simple if the right tools or calculations…Continue

If its outside in a park it would be acoustic :-). Fine by me, but don't some of you need to plug in? I think that just showing up early at Bangkok (after calling them first) might be a real good alternative. Another is the SOVA coffee house on H street on a night when they aren't booked, or a weekend afternoon.

Hey guys, thanks for the inside scoop. I suppose that may not be too great for a hang-out jam thing. Any one got other suggestions? Maybe a specific park with a specific tree?

That's how my friend Jeff Clair, who goes there regularly, described it.

Great idea to all get together sometime. I like the idea of all bringing our CBGs so we can learn from each other about building. Besides the Bangcock Blues biz, which sounds great, what if we had an informal get-together/jam under some shade tree somewhere? I have no suggestions for a specific place, but a public park might be nice. There has to be shade for comfort and instrument protection.

Hey everyone. I have been to Bangkok Blues Sunday jam. I must admit it was not exactly what I expected. The players were all really top notch. I have some skills at 6-string, but felt I needed more practice before tackling the jam. The format is that people sign up before the jam starts, saying what instrument they play. Then somehow somebody forms groups from that. The groups then each get their turns (maybe 2 songs each?). Groups were as expected -- drummer, bass, 2 guitars, one singer+harp. Interestingly, every guitar player I saw played strats. The atmosphere was good, but I don't know how conducive to novices. I kind of got a kick out of guys in the audience quietly jamming along with harps, sitting with their cases with harps of different keys.

Hey Jim, I'm glad you found us. Thanks for linking that thread in here. I was planning to give them a call and let them know, but that's a great idea to see if we could show up a bit early.

Here is the previous discussion with some additional folks in the area.

There are others in the area that play CBGs or are interested in them. Check out the replies to the thread on having a CBG event here in the area from sometime back. I've seen pictures of a guy with a homemade/CBG guitar that shows up at the Jams in Laurel on Thursday night as well.

Do the folks that run the Blues Jam at Bangcock know that we may be coming on the 27th? It might be worth it to let them know ahead of time, or see if we could show up an hour or two early for the CBG exchange. The Archies Barbershop / DC Blues used to host an acoustic jam before the electric jam at BB once a month and it worked out pretty well.

In any case, hope to see you there.

Need to get Corey Petree to join the Group too.

I'm not aware of anyone else in the are that might come, but I'm planning on making it.

I'll bring a build for folks to mess around on (and to pick up some pointers on) - but I'm not much of a player yet. I've only figured out two riffs so far, and one of those is smoke on the water. Heck, even my first grader knows that one. :)
