I had a fight with a bar piezo recently and my good friends at Guitar Works explained to me that the bars are designed to go IN the saddle, directly UNDER the bridge. They said installation has to be tight- no wiggle room, and that those bars don't like being exposed to sound that travels through the air- they're better buried, squoze snug between bridge and saddle.

Your piezo pickups are usually installed under the bridge (either directly, or under the box lid).  With that said, you could probably try temporary to place the piezo in different places to see what sound you like best.   Your magnetic can be placed anywhere from where the fret board ends, or just before the bridge (depending on the tone you want -- the closer to the fretboard, the more the bass sound will be).  What determines where I place a magnetic pickup, is usually how the cigar box is decorated because I try to leave the decoration intact.

(Re Walmart's $1000 gift card....Thanks Mark Bliss for the warning.

It seems that scams and scamers everywhere!   I got that email and clicked on the

link to here,  looking for some information on a "Walmart Gift card"...naturally didn't find it.    I generally don't reply to these "phishing emails" as there are enough of them around and I would want to verify from a group that I'm a member of ..first!

It's the old story..if it's too good to be true..it is!

Is that  black gas pipe or aluminum electrical conduit.   What does it weigh?

Nice touch with the .022uf orange drop....must have a bit of that Les Paul sustain?

Save the mint case. You can make all sorts of things out them. We have a discount grocery store (the boys and I call it the used grocery store) where I've been picking up different altoids flavors, usually 15 tins at a pop, at 33 cents each. I use them for all kinds of things, techie and non-techie, from tissue holders to preamps.

okay i figured as much, damn! It is a mighty cool mint case. Oh well.

Colin, generally the covers (tops) for guitar pickups are either plastic
or brass plated with chrome or nickel. The covers should be
non magnetic, so that the fields surrounding the magnets (rod or
iron slugs-bar magnet) are not affected or disturbed by the cover.
Brass or even aluminum would work.

No worries carver, sorry if the text came across a-holeish it is only because I am one. Not by choice just part of my lovable personality ~8v)>. I was only referring to the "geek" strength due to the fact that those those type take time and searching to find in a store; or the need to get them online. For some reason I have reservations about getting into buying much online. Also the magnets that can crush people's hands are ridiculously strong, The ones I do not think the ones I have are too strong, just strong for the application we were using them for.

So, I would like to also have a metal top plate, i.e. a mint tin top, it is magnetic, I have heard mixed opinions on this, but since I see metal plates on popular guitars is it something that would work?
