? I would wire like the single pup diagram and see how it sounds. And let us know how it turned out.

I have a wiring question.  For my current build I purchased a 4 pole single coil mag pickup from Gitty.  I also ordered a Fender Jass Bass pre-wired control plate setup off ebay because it would have cost more to buy three pots, jack, and knobs seperately.

While the control plate is wired for two pickups, the volume controls are wired in parallel, so I planned to just cut one control off and be done with it.  But when I checked the diagrams at Seymour-Duncan I got confused.  Why is the Jazz Bass tone control wired directly into the jack first with the volume coming off that? (see diagram)

When looking at a simple one pickup-one volume-one tone set up, the jack is wired to the volume pot first and then the tone pot.  Am I missing something?  Can I go ahead and connect the one pickup to the existing Jazz Bass wiring (removing the "top" volume pot), or should I resolder everything to match the diagram below?

Hello everyone.  I'm thinking of winding my own 3 pole single coil for my CBG.  I've got a meter that measures inductance and wondered what the target might be for resistance and inductance.  Also, how many windings is typical?

thanks,

Hey folks, wanted to let you know about an article specifically on rod piezos that was just posted on http://www.cigarboxguitarparts.com. This is the first in an occasional series of more in-depth articles on CBG-related topics that we are branding "Cigar Box University". We will also be hosting these articles in a more permanent form over in the Cigar Box How-To section of www.cbgitty.com. We have quite a bit of other CBG wiring & electronics articles on there, so if you haven't already, be sure to check it out!

Groovemeister, do all pots need to be grounded, I don't ground the backs on my amps and they don't humm? Should I?
Comment by colin mcgrath on April 30, 2011 at 11:32am
Never mind. I got the buzzing under control.

multiple discussions regarding Piezo transducers have stated grounding is not necessary. That only pups need to be grounded. But the first time it happened I did try to find a way to ground but it did not work. I had 2 washers that I tried to ground to but the solder did not stick?? All the body is wood, I assume metal is needed for the ground effect. Not sure how to do that? thoughts?

Did you ground the back of the pot?

I just finished a build that is my first attaching a piezo to a v. pot. When plugged in I am getting a buzz that will go away (but not fully) if I touch the back of the pot. However it goes away totally when the volume is turned up to 8 and above. By the way I rewired 1 piezo twice to 2 different pots and then, due to a eph-up on my part not associated with wiring, I had to rewire a different piezo to the 2nd pot. All times I had the same problem. I have looked up "cold joints" for soldering and my connections seem to be right. Would a cold joint be the only solution, or is there something else? I attached the piezo's using hot glue then encasing in silicone. Could the hot glue have loosened the connections on the back of the piezo??? Just thought of that one...not sure though. Thanks in advance.
