Steve, check out my article specifically on piezo usage methods... I go into depth on different ways to mount them, with a focus on ways to insulate/cushion them to cut down on extraneous noise. Here is the link: http://www.cbgitty.com/content/view/35/43/

Ben - great post and great article.  Any thoughts on acoustic padding (hot glue, etc.) that others have recommended for reducing vibration noise (guitar handling, etc.) for piezos?

Hey everyone, wanted to make sure you knew about the article specifically on rod piezos that is posted over on my site, www.cbgitty.com. In it I go into depth on the anatomy of rod piezos, and how they can best be used in cigar box guitars. If you have never tried a rod piezo, you owe it to yourself to do so - in my opinion, they are much superior to disk piezos in terms of the acoustic sound you get out of them.

Here is the direct link to the article: http://www.cbgitty.com/content/view/40/43/. We have plenty of rod piezos in stock over at C. B. Gitty Crafter Supply, including a nice "no solder' rod piezo/endpin jack harness that makes it absurdly simple to install one into your CBG. Here is the link: https://www.cbgitty.com/cubecart/guitar-pickups/rod-piezo-endpin-ja...

I am about to finalize my reso ukulele.  I am thinking of adding a pickup before I close it up.  With an Ole Lowe Alu cone, what type would you recommend and where should it be located?  I have no experience in the arena and need some advice.  thanks, john hopper

I've experimented with Radio Shack ceramic magnets for pickups. They're actually not bad sounding and about the right size and strength - both the rectangular ones and the 1/2" discs.

Looks nice and flat like those really cool Klangbox pick ups.

I added some pics of the mounted RatShack pup in my pictures.  Also added a brief sound bite of the pickup.  The CBG with the RatShack pup is on the clean and dirty rhythm.  The pup is run through a TubeScreamer into a Line6 Spider IV 30.  The lead is a Strat straight into the Spider IV.

Here's a pic of an experimental pickup...built with all Radio Shack parts...rectangular ceramic magnet and 30 gauge mag wire. It's 5/16ths of an inch (8mm) thin. It's not the strongest, but it does sound great!

Last week I finished my 1st Mint Tin Amp. Some folks on chat have asked about how to get it all to fit so I posted some pix. Hope this helps. I'm trying to learn how to do video so I can give you a sample of the sound....stay tuned. Any questions just ask.

hal, because the pups are in prll, the the master tone has to be connected to the output from the combined volume pots, not the full output from the pickup where it usually goes.  The tone pot will still work fine, and will function like the 50s style gibson wiring.

The hot wires on the volume pots are also swapped from standard.  It will all work if you chop off a pot as you intended, but the controls will interact a little differently.  Try it, you might like it.
