Good article on pickup simulation from AMZ-FX, written by guitar electronics guru Jack Orman. Basically you can use any pickup, simple enough right? He even makes reference to CBG’S & 3 pole CBG…Continue

Hello everybody!Thought I'd drop these nuggets for anyone looking to wire (3) P90s into their guitars.First, the middle pickup must be reverse-wound, meaning you would wind the pickup clockwise. The…Continue

Guys, after assembling yet another 3 stringer with one pick up, one volume pot, and one tone pot, something is amiss. Have never had this issue before. Static noise is heard when the guitar is…Continue

I did ground the back of the pot, and the buzz gets worse when I touch the strings.
Did you ground the back of the pot? Furthermore I wouldn't use a 250k pot, but at least 500 or 1M. 250K cuts the highs too much with piezo discs. It's fine with magnetic pickups however. But that's just my opinion.
Can any one help? I just finished up a 6 string cbg with license plate sound board. It has two transducers 250k volume pot and 1/4" mono output. When the volume is in any position other than all the way up or down it has a horrible buzz. I used a wiring diagram found in this forum. Any help would be appreciated.
take a look at this thread silverback - some useful experiment options if you pan down a bit.
i dont' know what circuit you're using, but those component values are standard magnetic pickup values and given that piezos have very different load requirements, i would expect results to be sub optimum.
tone control. I just used the wiring diagram from "Handmade music factory" for a jack, piezo, volume pot and tone pot. I've got 500K pots and tried both .022 and .047 microfarad capacitors. I can't hear any difference in tone so far. Looking on line I see a number of comments that tone controls hardly work without a preamp. Q: Is the tone knob a waste of time for a CBG build?
Hi Phil,
If you just change the magnetic pickups on the diagrams for piezos -
if the lugs are all on the same side page 11 of the Artecsound wiring diagrams will show you how to wire up http://www.artecsound.com/wiring/wiring_book01.pdf
If the switch has 4 lugs on each side the Seymour Duncan diagram will show you how to wire up. http://www.seymourduncan.com/support/wiring-diagrams/schematics.php...
i have 2 piezo's . i want to wire to a 3 way toggle switch, the switch i have is off a tele and has 8 connectors . i want to wire it so it has 1 piezo neck poss. mid poss, both piezo's. back poss. bridge poss.. any help would be gratefull . cheers..
Oops, I meant to post a this excerpt from the piezo article below since it pertains to CBGs
"
When using piezos in a circuit, there are 2 things to watch out for. First, make sure you are using a high-impedance amplifier, and second, be sure to protect your amplifier. The source capacitance of a piezo element can vary from 500pF to 20nF, and creates a high-pass filter with the input impedance of your amplifier. So, if you want response down to 20Hz, you’ll need an input impedance from 15Mohms to 400kohms (Fc = 1/(2*pi*R*C)). If you use too small of an input impedance, only high frequencies will get through, which partially explains the ‘tinny’ sound that most people experience with piezo contact mic’s."
