yah don't screw up the can!

Thanks!

I ended up using a 50K audio pot, and it did seem like it limited the signal a bit.  It still sounded good, but it didn't start feeding back as soon as you plugged it in (which is what often happens when I have a piezo disc under tin.)

I didn't try taking the cap off while playing it.  On my last one the jack was in the cap so you couldn't take it off.  I thought about putting a sound hole in this one, but I was worried about screwing up the can.

I checked out the photos Matte........ Bad dass...... it came out pretty cool. I'd like to know what pot you ended up using and how it sounded. Another question..... does taking the cap off change how it sounds, I always wondered about that on those can builds.

Got it all wrapped up. The 50K pot seems to be working just fine.

I'll be uploading more pix on CBN later, but for now you can find them here: http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150568321821046.371463.1...

That's kind of what I was thinking.  I actually found a 250K pot that I had already wired up with a couple piezos, so if my 50K doesn't work out well, I'll have a backup.  Planning to do it when I get home tonight.

go for it Matt, i've been looking out for 50k pots for a new build, (electrics copying a  H44) should cut the top end a bit without being muddy.

Will a 50K audio pot work as a volume control for a single piezo pickup? I'm working on a gas can banjo and wasn't planning to have a volume control, but at the last minute decided I'd like to add one. However, I only have 50K pots on hand and I need to ship this thing out in the next day or two.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around how potentiometers work, but I was thinking that maybe a 50K pot might actually be an improvement over a 250K for a piezo disc under metal.  They tend to be so hot.  The way I understand it, a 50K pot would limit the signal a bit, and might make it a bit less harsh.  Normally I'd just try it and see if it works.  Problem is I need to ship this thing off tomorrow so I don't want to drill a hole for the volume and have it not work because I don't have anything to replace the 50K pot with. Just wondering if anybody has any real world experience using something other than the standard 250/500K pots.  The buyer didn't request (or pay for) volume control, so if it won't work, I'll just skip it.

I really need to educate myself more on all this electrical stuff!

My CBG has a single piezo, volume amd jack. I have a squeal/feedback when running through my amp. IT goes away when I touch the cover of the guitar patch cord metal casing. I tried different grounds inside the CBG but it didnt help. Ideas?

Thanks

Thanks Ben, it did seem backwards to me.  I'll probably just go ahead and replace the linear with an audio.
