So, as a music newbie, is there a process for translating standard 6 string music from the books I can buy in my local guitar store into something I can play on my fretted cbg tuned to gdg? Thanks, MC

Keith - I don't have anything concrete to share, but with a tuning like that, you need to searching for banjo tabs and ignoring the 5th string.

One thing you can do is play it in open G using barred 0-5-7 chords

0            0               5              0               0          0               7
Amazing grace, how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me

 

  0            0            5           0         0                   5       0

I once was lost, but now am found.  Was blind but now I see.

Where the 0-5-7 are the barred frets.
