I have a valve jr. that I've done some mods too, but still not one of favorites. Fender Blues Jr. is pretty nice, but I'm planning on getting one of the new Vox AC4TV amps soon. Really sweet sound for practice and recording. 4 watts, all tube, switchable to 1 watt and even 1/4 watt. Simple controls too, just 1 volume and 1 tone. No effects, but that's easy enough to fix after the fact with a pedal or something. For a bigger amp, I still find it hard to beat the Peavey Classic 30. All the power you could need for bigger gigs, American made, all tubes and reasonable prices. The Peavey Classic 20 (actually 15 watts) is long out of production but a fantastic amp as well if you can find one on evil bay. Used to have one but it blew a transformer and I ended up selling it off for parts.
Hi i have just bought my first All Valve /tube amp and i'm in love hehe! the best feature i like on it is the power scale know which allows you to have a full cranked up overdriven sound but at any volume you like it's ideal for home use or studio and it sounds superb worth every penny/ cent
here's the link for the spec on it i would recomend one of these amps to anyone who loves the sound of valves - it started life in the same factory as the Epiphone VJ but a differant case and had just about everthing upgraded

Well - I did it! Picked up the Vox AC4TV combo yesterday. So far so good. Really like the sound of this little guy. Even my wife commented on how good it sounded (always a plus - Ha!)

That looks like a sweet little amp that Juju got though. The specs are incredible.

If you don't need overdrive, a bass amp has a great vintage blues sound. try one with a 15" speaker.

For overdrive and cheap, the Danelectro honeytone is great. get the a/c adapter, batterys go fast.

And don't fall into the "I need more watts!!!!!" trap.

I have way too much gear,so i decide to sell off what i don't use very often.I sold a pos Dean z bass, a washburn acoustic,a behringer vampire half stack, an ovation celebrity, roland vg99,zoom drum machine and a bunch of old midi gear.So now I turned around and bought a peavey milestone bass, a shure 58n mic,and a marshall mg250dfx amp.I recognize my disorder as G.A.S. gear aquisition syndrome, but Dang my CBG sounds awesome through the marshall
While I was waiting for my CBG to be finished, I shopped for amps, online and off. I got tired of being outbid on the vintage Silvertone and Epiphone amps, which were my first choices. Eventually I settled on a Fender Frontman, and it sounds incredible, even with 10 watts. Sometimes I play my CBG before I go to sleep, so I bought one of those little Danoelectric amps for my nightstand. It's not a bad sound for next to nothing -- it even fits in my purse.
I usually plug up to my vintage Fender super reverb or one of the battery operated cigar box amps that I have thrown together..
I have 4 amps in the house. each of my daughters have guitar practice amps in their rooms. I have a 30 watt Peavey Microbass in my area and I have an Acoustic B100 100 watt combo 1x 15 I use for big stuff. I leave the Acoustic at church now ... got tired of dragging it around. I just use the Microbass at home.

Matt

BTW- You should try the CBG on a bass amp ..... at bit different sound that I find way cool.
