This could be git related or not. So, what's on your workbench at the moment?

I have 4 scarf joint necks in different stages of work.

A 25" scale pine 5 string neck for a Banjo-Res, A 25" scale Red Oak neck for my 6 string Strat-Res build, A 24 & 1/2" scale Red Oak neck for my 6 string Double Cut Tele build and a 27" scale 6 string Baritone Conversion neck for a Modern Strat body I have.

Say what?

I posted to ya Southern Ray and even went through the troulbe of putting it in again in the edit part. Now I don't remember what it was.

I was looking over FB Marketplace friday night and saw someone selling a Epiphone SG Special II for a 100 dollars. I asked him a few questions about it and then met him nearby and bought it. He was about 17 and said he wanted money to get a laptop for school. I could tell he hadn't played it in some time because it was dusty, paint rubbed on from sitting in a corner and strings showing a bit of rust.

It's some species of Mahogany for the body and neck, has master volume/master tone with a kill pot and 2 overwound ceramic mag humbuckers. The pickups will likely be replaced with something less overwound. Neck is straight and the frets feel great.

Slow progress on this build. Taking my time.

Great job on the inside bracing.

Nice neat work there Ray, what do you plan for a soundhole/s?

As the bridge sits on the c of the name, I thought that a C shaped bridge would work well and the name would look complete, especially if painted/stained black. just a thought.

 Thank you, Taff!

I've always had a love for tight tolerances and press-fits. Figured when I started building these things a few years ago that if the neck and body were press-fit, there would be a better transfer of vibrations making for a louder guitar with more sustain. Am I close on these assumptions? I am in no hurry to build them and I mostly use some old saws and files and do it by hand. Tired of the noise of the machine shops... I use a Bladerunner for the bigger stuff, though.

Soundholes? Thinking about cutting a couple of quarter inch slots, one about two inches, the other an inch and a half long in the upper left of the soundboard as looking down on the box, neck to the left. Not sure I can do that without mucking up the finish, so... undecided. Ideas? The idea you have with the bridge is a great one, so I'll probably do that. Thank you for the tip! You really got a good eye.

Man this site is really giving me issues right now.

My Cousin gave me 4 paper covered Cohiba boxes and 4 pieces of what looks to be White Oak for necks. Score!

 Hoooooo!!! That's a good Cousin!

Thank you, Paul! I still have some somewhat smaller pieces to glue in for longitudinal strength and some neck bracing at the box.

Hi Ray, soundholes you mention are what I had in mind also. I would score the outline with a sharp craft knife first and cut inside that line, could avoid damage.

Yep, firm neck joints help prevent the strings from being robbed of their vibrating energy.
