I just saw this movie yesterday for the first time (it was playing on Showtime). What a cool flick this was. The movie wasn't a revelation or anything but it was good and solid and had all kinds of really fantastic moments in it. Plus the added fun of being able to point at the guitar and say, "I know the guy who made that!"
I especially liked how you could walk out of the building while playing the guitar, while leaving the amp inside the building, but everyone in the street can suddenly hear the music as though all the sound is coming from the guitar itself. Only a Crocker guitar is that kind of badass!

Hey, was Danny Glover really playing the piano in this movie? I was really impressed by his singing as I quite enjoyed it. If that was his playing on the piano as well I'm double K.O.'d.

HAAAA, some Hollywood trickery...
Believe it or not, the music was recorded live as it was played. John Sayles was against doing the tracks in the studio and lip synching in front of the cameras. The music you see and hear was performed and recorded live on the set.
For the scene where Sonny walked through the club, out to the street and stood on the car playing, the guitar cable you see is a dummy. When I built the guitar I added a second jack to the back so Sonny (Gary Clark Jr) could hide a wireless transmitter under his jacket.
Hope I didn't spoil any illusions...
