I've now built four CBG;s (two 3-string fretless, one 3-string fretted and a fretted 4-stringer). This, of course, doesn't include the Hello Kitty lunch pale 3-stringer for my grand baby.

Now, here's my question, how would a CBG with a metal resonator sound different from the boxes I've already built? I've seen 3-stringers built with stainless dog dishes for resonators as well as large tin can lids and other metal objects.

So, what do they sound like? any YouTube suggestions?

In case it isn't obvious, I'm itching to build something new.

Thanks

Tom T

Now, that's a new one on me. Might be cool to see.

Hi Tom.....Look up on the main video page and look at my 1st ever video of my cat bowl resonator tenor ukulele with Aquila nylon strings.  I have built several, but I have not put steel string on any yet.  I plan to build a 21" SL cat bowl tenor guitar after the new year with steel mandolin strings GDAE tuning.  Enjoy

Thanks Will.

I'll check out the vids next.

A sample of 2 different resonators and a couple different playing styles.  Both are Lowe Cones.  I added a couple extension springs inside the box with the tarnished cone for some extra reverb.

I watched all three videos. Wow, that CBG in the second video (tarnished cone) sounds fantastic. Exactly how I would want it to sound. Nice piece.

Thanks for posting.

Thanks Tom.  I used Martin medium gauge electric resonator strings and the guitar is tuned DGdg using EADG strings.  All are wound.

Don't forget the influence of the slide on the sound in that 2nd video.  It is a Mojobone Works 1/2 and 1/2 bone and hardwood slide.  Contact Randy Bretz.
