SHANE SPEAL NEWSLETTER  -  Jan. 19, 2013
(want to unsubscribe? scroll to bottom)

Hi all!

I've got big news to announce!  I'm going to be working with the legendary blues record label, Adelphi Records!  Adelphi was part of the 1960's blues rediscovery movement, releasing albums by Mississippi John Hurt, RL Burnside, Rev. Gary Davis and many more of the legends.  Founder, Gene Rosenthal has been showing up to my gigs lately and is about to bring the label back to life with yours truly as one of the main acts.  I feel like I'm living in a dream world.  There's no additional information yet...we're still getting details together.  Expect awesomeness...

The Underground Lounge Podcast is streaming a 75 minute interview I did with them last week.  I also perform several acoustic cigar box guitar songs live in the studio including an unreleased original, "No Business Blues" and a 5-string version of Son House's "Death Letter Blues."  You can stream it or download it to your iTunes or Android.  The Underground Lounge interviews Shane Speal.  I'd encourage you to download it to your mp3 player and listen at work or in the car.  We cover everything from the Adelphi Records announcement to my new jug band and a whole lot of fun info.

More Shane on the radio:  My music has also been added to My Rural Radio, a great independant online radio station run by my jamming buddy, Mike Males.  My songs will also be featured on the Backstreet Radio program at 7pm (E.S.T. US) on Jan 21 and again on Jan 23.  Tune in!

Oh, don't forget... you can purchase downloads of my albums right here.

So many concerts...  I've just been given a residency at The Cove nightclub in York PA every Monday night at 8pm for their Monday Blues shows.  I invite anyone up on the stage with me to become my impromptu band.  I will also be performing with my new jug band at the legendary Chameleon Club in Lancaster PA on Friday, Jan 25 in a triple bill show with DiDi Deluxe and the Dirty Devils along with The Saints of Sorrow.  And on Saturday, February 2nd, I will be a featured performer at the Folklore Society of Greater Washington DC "MiniFest."  See my entire calendar of events here.  (There's many more shows than I just mentioned.)

The rest of this newsletter is for all of you who love music gear...  yummy yummy music gear!

I currently have five handmade cigar box guitars in stock. Just $95 + shipping. These are my classic 3-string design and all are equipped with internal piezo pickups.  I usually ship the same day or by the next day at the latest.  Click the pics to see the listings.

HERE'S SOMETHING DIFFERENT:  Some famous guitarists get "signature model" guitars named after them.  Me?  I have my own line of tuning pegs!  LOL!  The good folks at CBGitty.com have been working with me to come up with the best cigar box guitar parts around.  After ordering literally hundreds of a certain tuning peg for my cigar box guitars, they contacted me to give my blessing for a special 3 and 4 pack of them.  They're perfect for any builder, experienced or novice.  Shane Speal Tuning Pegs at CBGitty.

For those of you who have seen me in concert, you'll probably remember that huge copper microphone I use to make my voice sound like an old AM radio.  It's called a Copperphone and it's hand-built by Mark Pirro, bass player for Tripping Daisy/The Polyphoic Spree.  He sells them under the name Placid Audio.  You can read more about them (and get one for yourself) at PlacidAudio.com.

My friend, Pete Regan recently built me the ultimate railroad blues foot stomper.  It's literally a railroad spike and hammer that clangs to your foot stomps.  Check out the video here.  I hope he starts selling these things.  They're so awesome!

My buddies at Musicvox are still turning out the weirdest and freakiest electric guitars ever.  Although they have a website with all their stuff, my secret to you is to go to their eBay page.  Most of their guitars have a 'best offer' button.  He usually goes for a bid that knocks off $100 from the Buy It Now.  Tell him Shane said hi!

Well, that's all I've got for now.  Thanks for paying attention, for listening to the music and spreading the word.  I've got a couple booking agents furiously working on spring and summer concerts in clubs, festivals and even county fairs.  I hope to be bringing my new jug band to all of them.

Stay primal!
