 Is that playable length or total length , I mean will that be the length of the finger board ?

This could be very fixable, but depends on exactly what you've done and the rest off the construction. Post up some pics.

Options are a straight scarf joint or an extended he'll out of the box. Have you fretted it yet?

Any scale length works, just depends on what sound you want

Yankee Dog has it right... Ukelele's that I've seen are 13-15" in scale length.  To get a set of guitar strings to vibrate at a G for that length would be really tough, as there would be very little tension.  You'd have to use the heavier strings in a pack to make that work...

Best of all: There are no rules, only learning experiences.   Boxes are cheap, so why not give it a go?

Will post a pic later not home...I tried to use a blank bone nut for my nuti (got free & first time) and just wasn't thinking...was trying to make a groove for the nut out of the wood. I made it a few times and broke offf headstock length repeatedly....

I even cut nut slot too wide...the legnth is 17 1/2 before headstock with is cut down
