The first fret won't stay in. All the others are fine. Unfortunately this cbg was stained first . Should I use a touch of glue or something else?

A spot or two of glue in the slot will fix you right up. I just use plain old white glue. Apply in the cut using a toothpick, wait a couple of minutes for it to tack then press your fret in place. Wipe off any excess and ooze with a damp cloth. Wait until it dries completely before dressing the fret ends.

You're pretty much going to have to live with the scratches unless you want to pull all your frets and resurface the fretboard. However I would lightly sand with extra fine sand paper or 0000 steel wool to take off a little of the roughness.

The miter box discussed in the other thread will prevent the saw from being able to jump the groove and scratch the surface as happened here.Don't worry too much about it if it's a build you plan to keep for yourself. There is probably not one person on this forum that hasn't scratched a fretboard like that at least once. I know I have.

Keep in mind there is a learning curve to any new activity and learn from any mistakes you may make. Next time you'll know more than you did this time around and it'll go easier.

Thank you very much. Shoulda kept this as a slide only. Live and learn

Are you sure you are deep enough?? Maybe it's just wide or you are an excellent photog - can't usually see to the bottom that well - :-)
As previously mentioned you should be able to buff up that finish quite a bit - how was it finished??

Minwax finish. The depth is too deep...more even so than wide here's another pic

Another with fret in ...it's just seated in there for this pic but not hammered in as it was prior to it coming out...I'll try some glue or maybe another suggestion ? Thank you.

Yep - that's deep enough!!!

Hah after I bought Elmer's glue...I re-hammered just to see of it would stay in..it does so far

Jon, make sure the scratches are clean...try light sanding in direction of grain...then swipe on finish with lint free cloth. That should heal the scratches. The other recommendations for the fret are good. Part of developing craft is the screw ups. I know. made my share.

Thank you so much. Will do as suggested!
Going to wipe with fine sandpaper direction of grain with frets on...then re-stain after filing frets and sanding (frets end up kinda sharp...I use a fairly cheap set of diamond files from HF )...I also run some sandpaper along the side of fretboard to try and dull the sharpness although I think it's technique in fret filling). Guess a good set of files, experience and bevel file from stew mac would be the way to go in the long run...thanks everyone for your help!

good advice here. ive always used super glue and have had excellent results.
