I don't play my CBG too often. The pick up has a pretty sour tone. The no fret thing is pretty frustrating too. Its a beautiful thing. A fan made it for me and sent it to me free so I'm pretty attached to it. I'd play it a lot more if I addressed those 2 issues. Basically I'm a singer/songwriter. Even though there are no CBG's or any other instruments in it I wanted to share my latest video. It's an a capella live looped cover of crossroads. :)https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gjvacflnBzY

Hey, that was fun and creative! I liked it.

So help me out, what is the RAT pedal? Maybe you could give some tutorials here on using that stuff.

And maybe you could get someone to rework your CBG with frets and a pickup to suit your needs! Where are you, maybe someone here who has the ability to do that is local enough to help you out and you could get more enjoyment from your CBG!

Philby, I actually did make a cbg looping vid. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4VEa3g6zqX8

I use a slide but it still rickety at best.

That's quite clever. I think that you could do something really cool with your CBG. Use a slide so you don't have to worry about the frets.

The rat is a guitar distortion pedal. I put it on a mildly distorted setting to whistle through it. I actually have a pretty good thorough looping tutorial here....

Thanks for the reply Paul.

Every tutorial I see gives me new ideas and brings up more questions. I like the features of the Jam man, but still have questions. The you tube video in que right after yours, by a Whigham is also informative.

My first question is can you, or how do you create a song with bridges and/or change-ups instead of one long streaming steady rhythm track. I see in your demo you pause it as a bridge type turnaround, but can I set it up to switch back and forth between parts live, or do you have to pre-program the whole thing and let it ride, etc?

I know I am getting somewhat into advanced user features here, but thats important to me for performance based application.

Another question I have is more for saving and re-using the "loops" and such.

If you save loops to the SD card, are they saved as individual tracks or a whole track as recorded. In other words how much can I extract and dissect via my DAW later?

Thanks in advance for any advise you might have time to give!

Oh, and a very happy birthday to ya Paul!
The only way to play bridges with this simple type looper (rc-20, jamman) is to stop the loop, and play and sing. Like this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r-9ot6l2AAI
The RC-50 can do a lot more, grouping tracking, you can drop them out and bring them in individually.
You can also prerecord tracks. I find that totally cheesy bordering on karaoke.
This guy uses an RC-50 and prerecords bridges. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=paYvTKVTzU8

I hear ya on the cheese, dont want that effect, but sometimes want something a little more than a steady rhthm track too.

Thanks again!

I feel like I have addressed the monotony. I feel like the verses and the choruses on "lets run away" for instance are quite dynamically different yet the loop is the same. Verses and chorus are then different. I added the bridge which is totally different from the rest. I feel like it sounds like a song and not a loop. I got a huge compliment from a musician at a gig once. I was packing up. The guy had been working and listening but couldn't see me. He said. "y'all sounded good!" I sounded like a band to him. and he's a musician! It can be done with less.

Here is another way to mix it up and add dynamics. I sing/record the 2nd verse, delete it before it repeats, play the solo, then bring the recorded vocal back in and sing/record harmony with it, then sing a countermelody over the 2 part harmony. When I stop the loop I play the drums and the guitar at the same time. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=joVg0pnneuo

dont take me wrong, that was one of the most creative uses I have seen in that regard. Just gathering info.
Sorry, I get... excited?  So many people just use the on board beat, play 4 chords and noodle for 8 minutes. UGH!
