Hellow fellow cigar box guitar builders and players! I'm new to building cigar box guitars. First thing I did was collecting some nice boxes from Casa Magna, Romeo Y Julieta and Macanudo etc. but.........

Now i got the boxes and seen a lot of vids on youtube how to build these wonderfull guitars I can't seem to figure out what the best way is to adjust my neck to the boxes. Some ideas?

Keep playing those boxes guys, Cheerio

Jeroen,i'm not totally sure whether your question is re attaching to the box,or how to arrange the neck for better playability and action

Darryl,

I mean how to attach it to the box. Some people screw it, some glue it. But what is the best way to attach the neck to the box? See some guys glue the neck underneath the top with no space at all, some glue them to the bottom on the box...... Question is: what is the best way to build a strong solid connection.

My advice is allways not to glue it,i like to make it removeable in case i need to change anything,a couple of small blocks either side front and back, with screws is simple and changeable,or a piece of wood across the box front and rear under the neck ,then screwed works well,as to whether to have a clear space above the neck, and under the top, people are regularly debating the pro's and cons of this,i nearly allways have a space, but i also ,on my recent builds include soundboard bracing,my reason for that is on a light top,i feel, unsupported, the top will just pre-load under string tension and will not have the resonance i.m seeking.i can't definitely say i'm right, but that's my thinking, hope it helps

Thanks for your answer! I can work with that! Only thing I still don't get is that if I'm looking at Mike Snowden at youtube, that he says he glues the neck underneath the top. According Mike, the whole guitar is resonating this way. This would also be an option? I agree with you about the space between the neck and top.

Like i said Jeroen, people have different opinions of this,i,personally have never made an 'old crow' type guitar with the neck on top,but many who have, state that they sound fine, and i have no reason to doubt that.just realised that is not what you asked, but the answer is still the same, make 1 each way,and find out yourself, lol

I second that, in fact for someone building their first CBG I would steer them toward a face-mount neck, its easy and quick and has a great sound.

early easy quick success gives you the confidence to move forward.

So then there is space between the neck and the top of the box?
