Height of fingerboard above box top

I've got my neck and box cut to fit on this "neck to end" build. It's a fretted fingerboard and I'm going to cut the fretboard so it butts up to the box so I will be able to open the box if needed... The issue is that currently the top of the fret board will be even, if not below the surface of the box surface (sound board). So, will it be important to either put a shim between the neck and the fret board to raise it about 1/4 inch above the sound board - or shim the whole neck up from inside the boc and notch the top of the neck? Hope this makes sense. Hope you can see what I'm talking about in the photos.

I've built on this box before. I solved the problem by notching for the neck/fretboard, back to the top of the bevel on the top of the box. This effectively raised the fretboard almost 1/4 " which ought to be the easiest fix possible, if it leaves you room for the bridge.
