Using a piece of redoak for a neck and before gluing placed the fretboard piece wood on top(just getting it ready.)..the standard 1.5 3/4 neck is about a good 16th off wider fthan the fretboard piece I checked other pieces of fretboard wood so it's the neck itself..It's gonna be a 3 string with frets but now I'm not sure whether to try and sand the neck side before placing a fretboard piece of wood and frets. Would you glue the fretboard on sand the side flush then fret or try to sand the side of the neck before gluing the extra piece of fretboard wood? Unfortunately the neck is already got a headstock etc or I'd just start over...

Sounds like a gooch. If you applied binding on each side of the fingerboard, that would deal with problem and give a real upgraded look to the job.

Wish I could but I'm doing the only quick guitar ever and the wood size of the neck is off. I'll be sure to measure all pre-cut wood in the future but this label had the standard size written on it...it's a good thing I didn't try to glue nothing yet but I'm not sure now to deal with this. I can move the fretboard wood piece to one side and it's flush on one side...oh boy. I'm probably gonna sand it but I don't whether to put the fretboard on first ...had to be redoak duh..
Is there even binding this small? Sounds like it may be even more sanding etc..it's about 1/16 off total

trying to help...but sometimes hard to visualize & solve problem with only seeing a typed message...hands-on is much easier. Tough to plane, oak likes to chip out with its weird grain. And sanding it down will be a miracle to get it spot on even , if spot on is your goal. What about a thin strip of veneer, like one would use to seal off a counter top? Available in most cabinet shops, and attaches with either contact cement (for synthetic) or wood glue for wood veneer. Can't be more than 1-2 mm thick I imagine. Probably thin enough to apply to both edges to make it match, and to center the fb on the neck.

How would this work with frets though? I'm gonna snap a pic as soon as possible. The only other thing I can think is attaching the neck somehow to the lid but this box is already delicate

You would attach the veneer to each side/edge of the fretboard, with frets in already. If the fretboard is 1/16 too narrow, the veneer will increase the width by just enough. On mainstream guitar necks with binding, the ends of the frets dont go to the edge of board, they rest above the binding, so it will look intentional, and quite nice. After you glue on the veneer, just use a hobby/Exacto blade to trim if needed, then glue fretboard to neck.

Woah...this is a cool idea I just don't know if I can do it in time.
man I just wanna use an orbital sander.

Could try an angry beaver...

:)
Here pic 1 with one side even the other is the total amout off. 2nd pic is the fretboard in the middle. I thing both pics would be better in the daylight...

Only loaded one pic here the 2nd with fretboard in middle

If there is a gap on other side too (cant see in photo), binding should work fine
