I want to build some more amps. I also like to support CG Gitty. One thing I do not like about the artec amp boards he sells is they do not have an easy to an easy to adjust gain control. Anyone have experience with removing the "on the board" gain pot and replacing it with a pot and knob? If so , what would be a good value of pot to use please?

Thanks!

The only downside to that amp is the gain is fixed at 18db.  The other specs look good, up to 3W into a 4 ohm load. . . .

You will at least need a preamp, or effects pedal to boost the guitar signal.  Just to compare, the LM386 chip has an adjustable gain of 20 - 200 db (I think) and 1/4W output.

This might actually be a decent power amp, with a good high-gain pre-amp input.  Wired right, you could include tone control, too...

Keep in mind, I'm a guitar noob, but mid-level electronics geek...
