was surfin ebay lookin for pickups for my next project as Piezo's feed back so horribly, ESPECIALLY when over driven, and in doing so i found a MESSLOAD of single coil pickups for 3 bucks each which is what i was paying at my local radioshack for a piezo anyways.

http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_trkparms=65%253A12%257C66%253A2%257C39...

that is a link directly to the search results however if that doesnt work just do a general search (no sub catagories) for "bass pickup" without the quotes and then sort results by price+shipping: lowest first. when i was on there last night there were over 20 all for around the same price with shipping.

when i looked this morning there are 29, the most expensive being 3.69 with free shipping, i have ordered one already and will post to this with the results of how it sounds.

I have bought 6 of the picjups you have described and all fine...however...
A complete set up with pre-wired harness, volume control pot+knob, 1/4" jack and Tone pot wknob w/resisitor is even cheaper, I have bought 2 of them, got here in 12-14 days for $8.00 all total, they were marked $3.00 tool, gift on the shipping lable from China, so no import, duty or customs charges. They work fine, you can not buy the parts for that and wire ithem up your self!!! What a deal!
I know, I kinow...they are from china, making your own from scratch is much cooler but these pre-wired set-ups work fine and have rather powerful magnets, and get you to playing right away.
Check out the link below...they post them for various prices, dauily, with and with out shippoing, all told they go for $7.99 to $8.00...just do your self and others a favor, do not bid them up, no need....they are continually posting these and close 2-3 postings severy day. Only thing they are sold individually and you can not typically combine shipping on multiple orders....go figure. I got mine for .01 cent with shipping for $7.99.

thanks for the link, i will have to check one of those out on the next project as we are needing to start adding volume knobs, not too thrilled about the tone knob added as i have never used one, i just find the tone i want and leave it the hell alone but i figure i can do the same with this one. thanks again.

Raymond,

I put one of these units in a build. Sounds good, but I think I have some grounding issues. Any noise from your pickup? Did you run a ground to a string or metal bridge?

i actually had the same issue but not with these pickups (havent recieved the one i ordered yet) but with my peizo pickups in my CBBG. i just ran (with help from crow) the ground wire to the bridge, its just samwiched between the screw i used for a bridge and the wood, has a VERY slight hum when you arent touching it but lets be honest, when you are playing when are you NOT touching the strings with atleast something? anyhooo to the bridge is how i have mine grounded and it worked BEAUTIFULLY, just did a live concert with it tonight with crow on his CBG and it couldnt have sounded better.

Not to be necro posting, but I took the plunge and ordered two of the prewired pickups that Raymond did. I am kind of nervous about ordering stuff from China, but I figure if it goes badly, I am only out a few bucks I got a few boxes I think they would look good on.
No fear in buying from China. Virtually all affordable "regular" guitars are made in China anyways, with the exception of my Ibanez and Nippon Gakki Yamaha. With that said the Yamaha was built in the early 70's and they're considered the gem of poor man's acoustics. My Epiphone Les Paul is made in China, and all G series Yamaha guitars made after '71 are made there as well, nice clean factories (check out Youtube videos on their factories). All play like a sweet gem piece. Oh by the way, if you're worried about your pickup being faulty because it's from China, just remember most likely you're entire computer was made there.
Well, the two I ordered arrived. I will need to find a guitar to put them in, but they look OK so far. Cheap, but that was what I was expecting. We shall see.
