Arthur - I like "PitchLab" which has a free version and is available for either phone, Android or iPhone.  Nothing to lose!

I tried Guitar Tuna:

and it just wasn't working out for me. Although it's interface is beautifully done and you can add on a bunch of bells and whistles, I didn't need all that. You may think differently.

What I now use is gStrings:

There is a little up arrow in the bottom left corner of the app, swipe that up and you'll get a menu. Select the first item; "Instrument" then select "Open G" - DONE.

The app is very accurate, more accurate and easier to use than any of my hardware tuners. I now use it for my bench tuner as well.

The ads aren't too obtrusive in the free version but I paid the $4 for the full version.

It is a battery gobbler though so don't leave it on any longer than you need. I run it off of USB power when I'm using it on my bench.

I use a $6 clip on tuner set in chromatic mode, less problem from "ambient noise".

Arthur, if you have a smart phone or tablet, there are really good free guitar tuner apps.
