Where to get wood

Aloha all. I wanted to pass along a tip for those searching for something besides red oak and poplar at Lowes. Make friends with cabinet makers! I found a cabinet shop that makes custom cabinets and doors. They actually put out a scrap wood bin, free for the taking. Otherwise they have to pay to have it hauled away! They frequently have white oak, mahogany, poplar, and even exotic woods like koa and mango. The trimmings from cabinet and door makers is of adequate size and is already dried properly. You may have to rip and trim a bit, but a table saw will handle that. Grab one of your already built guitars and show them what you are doing - you may find a friendly soul who will be glad to provide you with scrap trimmings.
