2 x 4 and relic box

Sometimes I like to use a 2x4 scrap for the neck. This one and others are one piece and cut to shape.

They are thick enough to make neck bow less likely and I honestly think they give better acoustic sound.

I had fun using the torch on this one to blacken the wood. It had good sound, but a buzz in the big string. (tuned GDG). Some messing and a screw to hold down that string took away the buzz.

AGP# 2x4's are generally spruce, pine or fir which are all soft woods. Most tone woods are softer woods.

Thanks, guys.  Keep those pine or spruce necks a bit on the thick side.  I don't know for sure on the sound, Alan.  But spruce type woods are tone woods and my standard oak is not.

Nice! 'UJ', interesting that you think they sound better acoustically.

I've never done a one piece neck, it's now on the "to do list", is the 2x4 a hard or soft wood??. 

Love the "Pyro" work, the torch is also one my favourite tools!
