Wiring a pickup question

Greetings, I have a single coil pickup that has the 2 leads but also has wire from the shielding which I don' know what to do with. I'll also be adding a volume pot.
Any advice would be greatly apprieciated!

Well there's a few things you can do but in the simplest circuit you can just twist one of the two together with your shield and treat the other one as hot
