This might make you think twice about needing a slide.
I was hoping I could embed the video in this page. I'm sure there must be a way to do it, but obviously I haven't succeeded yet.

Great stuff John, remember back in 1971, the hit song "I Will Return" by Springwater? same technique, though also used studio techniques..

Oh! Found another one.

Somewhat longer this time. He probably doesn't skimp on his strings. Someone with more knowledge will be able to tell me if the head and tuners on this guitar look a bit unusual. Possibly to cope with his unusual technique. There is quite a bit of his music on YouTube and he is obviously rather good at this stuff (very very fast too).
I could save a lot of time by not bothering with frets, too.
Of curse, it will take a while to learn his technique...
no problem.... easy once you've done it a few times.... grab the "embed" code from youtube. Come over here, hit the "HTML" tab and paste the code. hit the HTML tab again and write your message.....
BTW, cool vids...

Thanks Sam. I must do better next time.
Hi Sam. Thanks for the info.
I've just found this blog post which explains much more about Adrian Legg and the guitar he is using in the first clip. There is an explanation of the tuners that he uses. Intersting.
I remember him! I never saw him play live though. IIRC, he used planetary banjo tuners with a 4:1 tuning ratio (1 revolution of the tuning post to 4 revolutions of the button) instead of acoustic guitar tuners which are typically 14:1.
I just found this blog post. It shows that he does use banjo tuners, but that they have an extra mechanism so that they can be set to predetermined positions, meaning he can change tuning precisely and very quickly. It looks more impressive when you think he is doing that just by ear.
By the way, the blog post I linked to in June has died. Sorry.
