Just need a good confidence boost here chaps.

This is my project, I have put a maple centre block in a cut my neck joint which I am worried it too shallow?

I have a cone to put in place and a gibson style bridge to go towards the back.

My electrical plan is to have a blending pot betweena  p90 and a piezo on the cone; tone and volume too.

Paint job, thinking high gloss Pelham blue apart from the back of the box where the origional cigar details are... Painted headstock too to match.

Can you guys have a look? Let me know your thoughts? I am worried about setting out with a poor chance of a good action... but I am trying.

Thought maybe if too thick and the amount of timber used, would absorb the vibration and really dull it out, if not, then as Taff says, go for the reso after all.

Thanks Richard :) Sorry just replied to your last note...

I fitted the neck first to make sure that measurement is just right, which I think it is :)

Maybe I should get a longer tailepiece trap thing instead?

The cone will sit flush with the box top... well maybe 1mm on top.. but I could rebate it

I will take more photographs today and post below!!

Looking good and keep the faith! I love reso's look forward to seeing it when it's finished :)

Thanks JB, everyone has been so helpful! I cant wait to get a few more cuts done and show you how awesome it is going to look!!!

So I have done a bit more thinking and some more work.

Sadly I lied about the depth.... It was too thick so I have planned it down to 1/8" now.... Phew!!

I have updated a few pics to show you and have taken all your advice in!

My plan is to route the neck pocket so the board is flush, then cut my cone hole and will try and rebate it by 1mm so it is perfectly flush. I do not have a top to the cone, does this matter?

I will change the tailpiece, does anyone have a suggestion?

Rob

heres another way to do your bridge with a bolt, but with your bridge, you'll have an easier time fine tuning the height for string action. pic of my project

my project

if you have room, hinges make good tailpieces

I love those sound holes, what did you use to cut them?

scroll saw, just printed off the internet, traced onto the top, flipped pattern for opposite side.

Your reso will done before mine, I stole the neck I made for mine for the Arturo Fuente build I did, so I have to make another neck arghhh

I'm sure when Taff gets some time, he'll post some pics as well, he has some very nice builds and a lot of experience, he's done some seriously impressive work, you'll benefit from his experience for sure.

If you go the hinge route, I used cut down finishing nails to secure my strings

another person drilled out coins

The main thing is to keep the area where you mount the strings as low to the box as possible, sometimes it's hard to get a good string break angle coming off your saddle on reso builds

I guess it will be hard to use a hinge as I am building a six string, so I will be happy to by a trap tailpiece. But I cant see how this will touch the cone?
