Poplar neck for 6 string build?

Has anybody used poplar for a 6 string neck and did it work? I've built a 3 stringer and a 4 stringer with poplar necks and it worked fine. I'm considering building an electric using the Mechanix Illustrated article posted on this site. If I use a truss rod, will poplar be stiff enough for a 6 string electric?

will def need the truss rod. maby top that with a nice contrasting hardwood fret board?

Harmony made millions of 6 string guitars with poplar necks. Install a truss rod and a hardwood fretboard.
