I have a piece of walnut (dark)...I don't want to fret the guitar as it's a slide only version.
How can I contrast fret lines against the dark walnut wood
The guitar is like a lap steel guitar. Don't want to bleach...
I was thinking white paint but that sounds not so great...hmm
Any thoughts. Thank you

Extremely useful information. I'm gonna have to try each method on scrap first. These are all excellent ideas. Kinda wish I hadn't sanded the top first cause that might be too much at this point. Non the less I have these options. Really thanks for taking the time to answer. Never thought to put wood frets in wood...especially since it's a lap steel.

Daryl, that looks great.

Thanks Jim. I watched some youtube vids to figure out how to do it. It was my first attempt at in-laying.

Lol! Tooth picks help and sandpaper is my best friend. Honestly, 220, 400, 800, & 1000 grit. Then tongue oil. This is my 2nd lap job.

Thanks very much for the license! This was a special order request from a guy watching me pick cigar boxes locally. The owner ratted me out as a builder and this guy from Belgium (snow-bird) had to buy some. It was great fun to make. Thanks again. ;-)
Wow!
Great suggestions here-maybe Popsicle sticks or matchsticks? Another solution maybe laying superglue in the kerf and sprinkling light saw dust into the fret area.
That's interesting also...
What about white wood filler..didn't even realize they made this color?
Seems like the actual wood pieces might yield better results though
