Hey All

One of my CBGs I am building has developed an irritating BUZZ... when strummed.  It is emanating from the box.  I have nailed the lid shut, made sure of all my heights (strings, bridge, neck, etc), moved the bridge around a scoach to see if that made a difference.  Nope.  So, I said to myself, I mucked this one up right and proper. hing  Took the neck, strings and a new piezo pickup to another of the same kind of box and lo and behold... buzz. I think there is sometabout the plywood box.  Anyone else have an issue with the Red Brickhouse boxes?  Maybe its just these two? They were sitting in the tobacco shop window... maybe something happened? I am out of boxes of that size, so unless I want to make the neck fit another box... I dunno.

I tried a pickup taped down to the cutaway under the strings put a quick bridge in and there was no buzz.

I am now to the point of banging my head on my work table.

If anyone has any suggestions or like tales, please lemme know!

Thanks!

I have used a couple, no issues...

In my not so distant past I found two issues:   the leads on the piezo need to be glued down or they can buzz, glue the box closed or it could buzz.

If you built the neck with a gap under the box lid, push down there and see if it stops...

Did you check the clasp that locks the box?  Also, squeeze the box closed in a few spots, if it is the box, you'll find it...

I had that once. It turned out to the the clasps that hold the box shut (even though they were shut) - I removed them and the buzzing went away!

I had an annoying buzz that I couldn't pin down for 3 days, turned out the tuner knobs were loose.

HA!  Got it.  The wee clasp that holds the lid down... I left it flappy not thinking it would matter.  Thanks for all your help.... and to my daughter who allowed me to grab her play stethoscope to see where the sound was coming from.

Brilliant!  Glad it was so simple... I've had to cut open boxes to fix that issue in the past...

Glad to hear its sorted! It drove me mad...seemed to only buzz when I played a G, so the open 1st and 3rd string buzzed, and the 12th fret, and the 5th on the middle string...I think it's called sympathetic vibration. I looked it up at the time but I've completely forgotten it now :-)
