We are organizing a CBG workshop held one Saturday a month at the 61 roadhouse & kitchen in Webster Groves MO. (St. Louis Area).  This is also the home to the St. Louis CBG festival each year.

Bill Kunz of 61 has been generous in offering us a place to meet, practice, discussed ideas and what ever members decide to do with the time. Gary Herget and myself are contacts for this club and are open to ideas to make this a fun club. As soon as we have commitment from members, we can set up a Saturday each month to meet mornings. We haven't set a day or start time as of yet. We need to know who can commit at least to a start up and discuss as a group when and how we want to run this. Possibilities are great!

Hey, banjos are cool! If you want to get it off your hands smilingdog1, I could always use another banjo! Of course, you learning to play it would be cooler ;)

Thanks! I actually bought it used for dirt cheap just to measure it out for a CBG build.

Looks like there might be a couple of Black Abyss boxes there, those are really cool!

First time I've seen Black Abyss boxes. They have a rustic look and are well made.

For those who wonder about our club/workshop, here a little inside view.

Half the people there wont know you're new at first, senior members will introduce themselves and welcome you. Traditionally there are several things going on at once and you can relax, have a coffee tea or soda until you see just how laid back it is. We rarely plan anything and let the day take shape at each meeting. If you are a drummer, welcome please. If you play any instrument and want to jam, bring it. If you want to just sit it out and catch up on whats new or check out others builds, come join us.

It is a great opportunity to connect with a diverse group of people who have just met and have CBG's in common.

Here is a hobby that amazes me with no boundaries on, geographic’s, age or gender. From airplane mechanics, business owners, steel workers, high school students and retirees to name a few, we meet briefly for 3 hours on the 3rd Saturday each month.

Should we have some fun and invite members  to join in a build contest for a small consolation prize?

(voluntary only) - Any ideas? Theme? When? Just a thought.

Is it next week?  The meeting, or the next week.  I always get confused.  A build contest would be great!  What about a diddley contest?  Single string instrument contest---non-electric?  Maybe two categories: 1)  Whoever makes the best looking/sounding and 2)  Whoever writes the best song on it?

3rd Saturday is July 18th. when we meet.

I'm up for anything, I think a diddley contest is actually more doable for most people.

Didldley bows require the least amount of time and are fordable to make. A stick, a body and string, I like it. We should have two categories where members can win in ether..

1: playability

2: Best looking

If you have another idea or better, plug away because I'm just winging it here.

Next meeting is next Sat 7/18 at 9:00am see you there!!

I think a one string diddley build and song contest would be cool! Probably be best to announce this at the next two gatherings. That way everyone will know about it.

So it's a contest for the strangest looking and the weirdest song right? : )

Hey, I like that too. So we will bring it up at the next meeting to allow all attending members to join in the goals and rules for a contest. Sounds like a lot of creative ideas already flowing.

See you guys on the 18th.

Oh and by all means keep posting any ideas here to stimulate others to jump in with their own ideas.

We plan on being there, with a gas can banjo and cigar box uke in tow :)
