deeper /  bigger   =  bigger  sound .  id   go  with  it  .

3 3/4" is not that deep. It should sound good without being cut down.

ok I'll leave as is.

can't decide what sound hole I should put in.

whether just 2 round holes or violin style.any ideas for this style of box.?

Sure, do it. I’ve built a few pretty big gits, and I'm believe the depth definitely contributes to the full sound they produce acoustically. Not as comfortable to hold as a full size dreadnought, for example, but that’s due to the shape more than to the depth.

A coupla’ recent ones:

No hole is my vote. It has a pickup good enough but if it was a "has to thing" lower side In between the graphics and the latch and a grape leaf shape to go with the wine theme. Or a wine bottle shape hole would also look cool.

It will sound good. Lile a Mexican guitarron.

Ok, so you decided to build an electric out of a deep wine box that's just screaming to let its acoustic tone out?

I'd have to disagree with Shawn and Way on this one. Find your bridge location, then do two F-holes just North (toward the Neck) of that, but leaving the center graphic. It will boom.
Ron you have a good point the depth of the box will add to the sound. I think Wayfinders suggestion would give him the best of all sounds for this box. It is a nice looking box and needs a unique sound holes to bring out that aspect. John swing for the fences on this build and remember play the thing till your fingers bleed.

the pick up has volume/tone control, chinese made.

on the control thingy one has a500,b500 I wont know which one is which till I plug it in.

at the bottom of the box tail piece there is a fairly large scuff mark ,bare wood when I tried to get the horrible label off.

I was considering putting two holes there and put two small st/steel sink plug strainer, one at the mark bottom and one at the top.

or maybe one large one to rid that mark..

to be truthful I really dont want to spoil the lid as I think it looks nice as it is not over crowded etc.

this going to be a 4 stringer.

a fret board will be added ,this will hide the two screws that you see.

with that type of pick up I had to cut the neck in half but inside I put a wooden bridge .

so the whole is strong.

I'm still learning guys so please bare with me.

so all this piezo/'n' other pick ups stuff etc wiring can be a bit daunting for me.

and the bridge is about where an/pick marked it on the box.

not sure whether to fret it or not but if I did I'd have best of both world as cb/john says.

oh I thought you meant both pick ups.

that pick up is already done.

as for the hole it will be on the end just below the jack.

On the wood ring around the sound hole in the top...mmmmm, Nope, I personally wouldn't. Latest research on soundholes from Cremonese violins and lutes shows that it is the actual edge of the hole, not the central part, that contributes to frequency transmission. Which is why the Cremonese masters went to increasingly longer f-holes.

You put a wood or metal ring around that hole, you'll prevent the vibe. But the 1" max hole is a good size for that box, no larger.
