If you're going for the sound of the box then sure there are a lot of other considerations. I was only talking about electric guitars and stand guilty of neglecting the acoustic side of things.

I agree about relying on distortion though.

Patrick,I've got this solid body build over here that doesn't have strings yet, I plugged it in and sounds like...

Now I'm suspecting that just maybe when I do put those strings on there the sound out of the amp will change.

I'm pretty certain that if you could pop over to the house and we both played the same song on it without changing any settings the sound would be measurably different. Couple of pints with some good food later and the sound would change still more.

I find my consumption of alcohol has a direct effect on the sound of my playing.
