What AC stuff do you want to lose?  All you can take out are the transformer and a few wires.  There is no risk in doing that, just cut the wires close to the board.

Okay Bill. I thought I read somewhere that power was stored some where & could be released on the ignorant. There's at least one object I have no idea what it is. I uploaded a picture of the works.

The other thing I was wondering about was  can I unsolder the two black wires rather than cut them. I'd like to keep things tidy, but don't want to damage the board.

All your patience, & any help you can give is truly appreciated.

unsolder is fine.  Energy can be stored in large capacitors to be released later.....if you never charge them up using mains power, there is none stored.  (There's not enough there to worry about)  Which component is the one you are unsure about?  I see the same works pic labeled as earlier?

I took your word for it all being okay -went ahead & removed everything but about an inch of the two black wires that are soldered to the board. They will be gone soon too. The bit that i didn't know about was only a hold-down screw for the main wire. Small steps, but moving forward.
