JD, yer tryin' to tune a 3-stringer to Gdg? Do you mean you can't tune it up to g, or that it won't tune at all? If not at all, maybe you stripped a gear...what kinda tuners / machine heads you using? If simply can't tune up to g, try tuning down to Ebe...what gauge strings? Didja use the 3,4,5 from a 6-string set? Need more info.

You're turning the tuning peg the wrong way. Loosen it.

its from the open g set i got from GB Gitty for Open G standard ABD/GBE all the other 10 or so builds tune fine- for some reason the thing will not do the high D it wants to tune up to be the B so I get two B's - crazy

I still don't understand what "not do" means. Either the string is too tight, too loose or the gear is slipping. Shouldn't be too hard to figure out.

Maybe look at da way yer string is wrapped on da tuner, could b slipping?

try tightening gear of tuner,slightly, not too much.

rule out string 1st,if it's still happening it's da tuner.

sometimes a string will slip, just re string it more firmly,

if not, change yer tuner & keep it for spare parts.

Ben's (CB Gitty) states that the strings are meant for guitars with scale length of 24-26". If yours is shorter than that, the string will break before reaching pitch, if longer, it will be too loose at pitch.

Just another idea to help

JD, I am new to this but  this might be something, cake pans are soft and tend to flex. So the first string is thicker gauge and requires more tinsel pressure to reach tone, thus causing down force on pan bottom.... narrow bridge footing also. Maybe shim up bridge footing underneath pan to stop downward force of string tension across bridge. Like i said i am new, just looking at the picture of the pan. Hope it helps
