so i thought i would ask you nice folks the best songs for total begginers to learn with?
If we could compile a list of songs with tabs or notes that would be great and hopefully stop guitar meeting the wall at force with the 1000th poor rendition of smoke on the water

the riff for Bad to the bone, is pretty easy, along with the basic 12-barr blues which covers hundreds if not thousands of songs (Kenny Lee's video is great for that)... so many genre's to choose from... what are you into? Country, blues, folk, rock, old time (late 1800-early 1900's?

Blues, Shuffles, original delta and more modern like Homesick James, Lightnin Hopkins , John Lee Hooker.

Here's a simple "Walking Blues" lick for a 3-string with open tuning (DAD, GDG, etc.):

--------------------0-------------------------------------0---------------------------2---4---5---4---2-----------------------------0-------------------

----------0---2--------2---0------------------0---2--------2---0---------0---4---------------------------4--------------0---2--------2---0---------

0---4----------------------------4---0---4----------------------------4------------------------------------------0---4-----------------------------4--2

HH - That is exactly the kind of lessons that I have been looking for!

You wrote out the tablature, and made a video to show us exactly how to play it.

(Yes, I know....in time we can get faster and add some more style to it.)

Now with this, I can start practicing an ACTUAL MELODY so when somebody asks me to demonstrate the CBGs that I am making, I can show them what they sound like....how very cool!

Thank you amigo....ya got anymore? <grin>

Thanks for the kudos, Keith.  Remember I'm as much a beginner as anyone else here.  Just know a few riffs and songs that I either learned here or picked them out myself.  Happy to give back whatever I can for all I've learned here.  Sorry it was all so crude, I'll try to do better.

Ah to sow the seeds and see what grows, this in my dusty ol mind is what cigar box is about people going here try this and maybe passing on a lil rif here and trick there and hell before you know its gone round the world with varying degrees of success and everyones own lil interpretation of a little ditty.....i do tend to rattle my jaw when sleepy but my point is i thank you sir.

Thought I'd contribute something to a good discussion.  This is my take on the 12 bar blues shuffle for CBG.  I added some tabs in the video to help, but I think this is pretty simple to pick up.

That's great!

What tuning are you using on the 4 stringer?  GDGD?

Thanks Hal.  I tune to GDGB on the 4 stringer.

Sir i thank you for that its so nice to not be overloaded with info.

You got it howling.  My pleasure to chip in a little.

Howdy turtlehead,

Now that instruction, I can understand!

This is very doable.

Give us newbies a few months to practice this, then PLEASE throw another bone our way with another video.

Thank you for you for taking the the time to try to help us.
