May be some other views, but I am under the impressin that for best results,  pickup needs to be attached to the biscuit bridge, or a peizo disc at the tip of the cone with some silicone adhesive.  Google search Schatten resonator pickup or more info and Red Dog Guitars.com

Yes, it's the cone that vibrates. On my 'conventional shop bought' resonator guitars there is a circular base on which the resonator sits.This  base has large circular hole in it to allow the sound out.

On my Dobro the pick up is situated under the bridge on the spider and this is routed through an active pick up. On a biscuit style cone the same would apply.

On my home made 'resonator' that is constructed from a Fray Bentos pie can - the cone is supported on 4 'L' shaped pillars to allow the sound out from under the cone with the shape of the pillars holding the cone in situ, The electric sound comes from two piezzo pick ups (Maplins) that are glued to the pie can, just under the bridge. The bridge is a nut and bolt.
