oh...and just one other thing....my wife is a christian, i raise my children (3) to believe in the teaching of the new testament, and my father in law is a protestant preacher. I love all of them as much as my own life, and do not try to press my religious leanings upon them. My spiritual arrival, much like all of yours, was arrived at after years of study, reflection, and observation.

If you don't believe in God thats completely up to you, Tiny was just trying to share in what he believes and what he thinks all should know. Who are we suppose to believe God or man. After all the god of this world has more influance on man, because all he wants to do is destroy all the goodness of what God in heaven has in store for us. We can't earn our way to heaven it's a free gift, Jesus has already paid the price for you and me and everyone else. Jesus would never force us to follow him, but he does send along many in our lives in hopes that some day we will understand what he is saying. Man alone messes up the gospel of the Kingdom of God.
But in the book of John chapter 3, verses 16-18 basicly says the whole message of God.
Verse 16: For God loved so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have ever lasting life.
Verse 17: For God sent not send his Son into the world to condem the world; but that the world through him we might be saved.
Verse 18: He that believes on him is not condemed: but he that believes not is condemed already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
Who are we suppose to believe and follow man or God. If you don't believe hell thts fine but you will when you are eternally seperated from the goodness of God, that is the hell in the bible. Being totally and eternally seperated from God.

Amen to that!

Hey, and it rhymes, too :-)
yep...that was my opinion..but admittedly, at the root of this blues and country tradition, hell and damnation like to rear their vocal heads...hundreds of songs...maybe thousands?....use it as sole subject...Bill Monroe...flatt and scruggs,....elvis...johnny cash,....bob dylan...all of em were discoursing about religion through music....Son HOUSE was an amazing preacher...and an alcoholic, and a hound with the ladies...but his sermons give me chills (i have a live album...its out of print, if you want a copy, i will upload it..).. I dont see anything wrong with a thread that invites open discussion, the participation is totally by choice... we are all wrapped up in it.

i am comfortable talking about divergent religious viewpoints because i am comfortable with what i believe. after all....through argumentative discourse, we may find our way hovering around some elusive truth. something common, something holy, something worth singing about.

I realize that folks of certain religious beliefs seem compelled to "share the good news" with others and to "witness" and proselytize.
Just seems to me that a site devoted to cigar box guitars isn't the most appropriate place for such....
You get to take your guitar, but once you pick it up to play, it turns into a bagpipe and Satan wants to do a duet with you on his accordian.

It's Hell.
yeah...i gotta feeling that barry manilow and satan are pretty tight with musical interpretations.

Well, I dunno. I do believe there are people closer to Mr Evil than not. Take my step-grand-monster for instance. Now I'm not saying she's the devil, nor am I saying she is the unholy spawn of... but if her and satan were to meet on a lonely street, they wouldn't need an interpreter.

Not getting into the substance, but a couple of "process issues":

- How come comments are turned of on tinyguitars' post? Why is that "privileged" above other posts? As a lifelong and firmly committed Christian, I might want to get my innings in against that particular fear-based interpretation of the Gostpel, but can't (without starting another thread, or hijacking this one).

- I find that post equally off-topic, and therefore equally offensive (or not!) as the goofy photo that tinyguitars was complaining about the other day (and which the original poster subsequently removed).
Hey guys I'm going and driving the bus you all can ride with me and I think you can take your guitars as long as you can play the Devils music [ The Blues ]. I hear there's on hell of a band there..
Advertisment for the "Chapel"..... If you want to swim deep, come on in... the water's fine. Music/Gospel/Blues so tightly wound as to inseperable. No offense meant or taken...

Kill People for Working on the Sabbath

The LORD then gave these further instructions to Moses: 'Tell the people of Israel to keep my Sabbath day, for the Sabbath is a sign of the covenant between me and you forever. It helps you to remember that I am the LORD, who makes you holy. Yes, keep the Sabbath day, for it is holy. Anyone who desecrates it must die; anyone who works on that day will be cut off from the community. Work six days only, but the seventh day must be a day of total rest. I repeat: Because the LORD considers it a holy day, anyone who works on the Sabbath must be put to death.' (Exodus 31:12-15 NLT)

things like this really make me wonder
