Mike, I did it all from this book, which you can get for a minimum investment of about $11 at Amazon.com; it gives you everything you need to know. Very helpful!

Hi, Mike, ... I think it was you who asked about building a cb fiddle, not sure ... just in case you did, to answer your question: you need to find the longest and narrowest box you can. I usually end up with something like 5 3/4" w by 10" l by about 2" d. If you want to make a full sized violin (4/4), that means you'll have to custom make your own neck, because a 4/4 violin is longer than your box. You need to have the correct string length, so you must compensate in the neck. It takes a lot of thinking and figuring out before you actually commit to cutting anything! It is critical that you figure out the correct angle for the neck, or the string height at the bridge won't be right. I find it best to draw it all out full size on paper before you begin to build it. You might also have to section out some of the depth of the box if you wish to mount the typical chinrest, because they will only open up to about 1 1/2". You might find it useful to look at my blog on building my first violin ... it may save you a lot of time and headaches. Also look at the pics I have posted of my builds under construction to get an idea of how to proceed. Thanks for asking, and good luck!

hey Mike, thanks for friending. Regarding building plans for oil can guitars, sorry, I don't have any. I'd just pass the timber through the can and put a fretboard onto the neck.
