Hi.

My pleasure. The other thing I think I should mention is that the scale length is just over 26.5", which is just how it worked out with the tubes I had available.

All the best.

Hi Ian and Lonman.

Thanks for the comments.

Ian. No garden rakes were harmed in the making etc.

Lonman. The guitar strings are .016, 0.24 and .032 and the bass string is .075. If you go for thicker guitar strings you should also use a proportionately heavier bass string, assuming you want the same intervals between the strings (1 for the bass, 151 for the guitar strings). In fact, even with this tuning I think a heavier string wouldn' hurt. The one I have is a covered Rotosound string, so there is no noise as you move up or down the string.

Just on a purely practical note. I made this instrument in the warmer months. I didn't realise at the time that it is a bit cold to play in winter as the aluminium conducts the heat away from your hands quite quickly. Maybe the next one will have carbon fibre tubes. Much nicer in cold weather.

John, I came across this while researching this type of style to build. What string gauge is typical for the bass string. I plan on using the 3 low g strings for the bottom 3, but have not dabbled yet with bass strings. Thanks for your (and anyone else's) input.  Lonman

Hi John.

Don't worry about the spilling. I often have the same problem.

I have a video of it here. I like the sound and intend to make another one but will all the strings on one normal neck.

The tubes are just aluminium tubing that I bought on eBay, so no mops where harmed in the making of this instrument.

All the best.

John
