i use a 3/16 also called a #10 eye bolt, and matching nut, washers and wing nut.
i suggest using an angled headstock or a reversed head design.

i have been trying this version. i drilled holes after the nut to put strings in their location, that works well then when i do get them tuned they are excellent for staying that way, however there is something i would like to ask you crow do you experience alot of string breaks due to that little spot in the eye that bites them to hold them in place, i have gone through so many strings today i turned to wire lol  if you have a solution or a magic spell for this could you let me know other than that i love the bolts

Crow has come up with a great way of preparing the string before winding. He shows it in one of his build videos on youtube (unstrung13). I just watched it and it's pretty slick. He uses it on all the strings.

Sorry I'm late to the party, but I've occasionally had the same problem as you Jordan. My solution was to clamp the eye in a vise. That does a pretty good job of closing the gap, at the risk of slightly deforming it. But that's purely cosmetic. The real trick is remembering to check the bolts, and do it before you string it up.

I've seen a few of your youtube videos and read through some of your builds on the forums here. I like your styles. I saved this diagram in my bookmarks weeks ago and now I'm doing my first build.

I'm having trouble tieing light gauge strings (.011, .013 and .020) with this method. The issue seems to be that the strings slip through the gap where the eye-bolt comes around. I have a feeling I may be mis-interpreting your diagram or perhaps it's just not gonna work. Any other ideas how I could tie these tiny strings without having to drill a hole through the bolt?
