I just have to say, this site is so damn much fun. There's always something interesting going on, in addition to the river of information inside. It's impossible to look at CBN for just a few…Continue

I think I'm going to do a cartoon of Wichita Sam as Jiminy Cricket on Shane's shoulder, urging him to do the right thing and be a 'better boy." . . . .

What are the other choices?
Dead Clapton Walkin? . . . . mmm OK, I guess.
Maim Clapton?
How 'bout this one? . . . .Slap Slowhand
Box Derek around the Dominoes?

The fact that it's 'Kill Clapton' and that it is uncomfortable is exactly the point. It should make one squirm just a little. In this context Clapton is the embodiment of regurgitated main stream pap that we''re supposed to lap up without question - because he's a "Living Legend'.

Well screw that. The cigar box guitar "movement" or "revolution" or "nation", or whatever it is - is here to shake that up. We're here to put a little heart back in music, for cryin' out loud. The crap that's out there now is the real offense.

Maybe what we really ought to do is exhume Clapton, because he checked out years ago . . . . and then once we've done that we'll take away his AARP card.

What a great site! Consider it bookmarked. It took me a few looks to see that the URL actually was your comment! I'm really ready to be on Christmas vacation!

That's a fine hat on your profile photo. I'm usually a beret or fedora man, myself...although, in my FaceBook photos, I'm seen in a Viking helmet. "Kill the Wabbit! Kill the Wabbit!" I'm really not sure what type of comments each of those hats would invite! 8-)

Morning Joker...

No...that was not pointed at you, that's why "Joker" was in quotes. It refered to medival courts where most of the advisors were stately vs. the comments of the court "jester" (now most commonly know as the "Joker" because of the deck of playing cards) were rediculed, because he was dressed weirdly and played to the court, more often that to the king.... I could have used "fool" or "clown", but I chose to use "joker" because like it or not, anything that comes out of Shane's mouth carries weight, even if he wished it didn't. I am simply urging Shane (and for that matter anyone who is reading this) to commit themselves to their "better-selves" and not so often play (or display?) just for the effect and "wows" of less our thoughtful brothers.

the best,

Wichita Sam

Thanks Ray - and Welcome! . . . but can I still get the hat?
Comment by RayTheOtherRay on December 22, 2008 at 2:08am
Thanks for the invite KnotLenny! I've just been reading through the comments, so far. I don't know how much ranting I'll do, but it's good to have a place specifically for the more strongly felt topics. I remember a theory used in business meetings that had to do with hats. If the moderator said that it was "white hat" time, the members could offer positive comments about the idea on the floor. If it was "black hat" time, it was perfectly acceptable to state what was wrong with the idea. There were other "hats" for other types of comments. I'm not suggesting hats. 8-) This is just a good place where you know you don't have to back off of a topic just because you feel like someone will disagree. I look forward to seeing what will be here.

Thank you for your service to our country, Darren. Gulf Storm vet?

Freedom AIN'T free. God Bless the United States Military! It's only because of them that we have the luxury to spend our time thinking about things like music and building instruments for our own enjoyment . . . . or for that matter to be able to pass the time on the internet.

Here's an unpopular opinion that will run across the grain of most folks these days . . .
I believe that history will show George W. Bush's presidency to have been remarkable. We have been safe from ANY terrorist attack on our soil for over seven years. And it is ONLY because He had the balls to take the fight to them.

Americans have NO interest in global politics and NO appetite for a war that lasts longer than Grenada. The media sees to that, and I'm afraid that popular opinion will now prevent future administrations from similar unilateral action . . . . and it will ultimately be to our great peril.

Furthermore, the idea to supplant an evil regime in Iraq with a beachhead of democracy in Iraq was a brilliant idea. There I said it.
And if that nation can survive, it will exemplify the only hope for mankind in a subcontinent of unspeakable repression and poisonous ideology.

What is the count on number of people the US Military has liberated in the last hundred years? 200 million, 300 million? . . . . more? And as Colin Powell once aptly stated, we've not come in conquest and have asked for no more land than that required to bury our dead.

Returning loosely to topic at hand . . . . Ron Marr (Blind Doughboy Guitars) has spearheaded a very successful campaign that sends cigar box guitars to our troops for recreation. It's called Operation Iraq & Roll. Check it out.
