I made the mistake many years ago of putting my workshop under the room where my wife watches TV. I am now retired and at any hour during the day I would like to cut / sand / drill. But wife is also retired now. So we have a schedule (fair) so as to when I can cut / sand / drill that also allows her noiseless TV time. (By the way, most of my tools produce noise at 90db or more, which is hazardous to hearing - I do wear ear protection when I work. I already have tinnitus.)

I am working on build 14 / 15 / 16.

At breakfast this morning wife asked me "When will you stop building?"

Answer - "when I can't build anymore"

Question - "what does that mean?"

Answer - "if I have arthritis or my eyesight is gone"

So, fellow builders - when will you stop building?

Based on the responses, we are collectively a very passionate bunch about what we do.

Stop building? I can stop anytime. I already have, many times. I haven't built since last week. I can stop anytime.               :-]

Good one! Made me laugh!!!

i Will probably kill over about the time I get one strung up but not tuned. Lol. Also this kind of talk is dangers to a free peaceful world sir. Lol

LOL no political post or anything close to it. Oh wait this isn't Facebook!

This is a tough question. I suppose with any hobby or activity, you quit when it stops being fun. However, its important to note that's not a permanent condition. You could get burnt out on something, take a break, then start up again. Quitting can be a temporary state (just look how many people stop smoking then start again). Fortunately, I don't see this hobby failing to bring me joy any time soon. ;-)

i hope I never end up burnt out or not getting joy. I abandoned my music as a kid, wish I never had, am retired now and my play time is pretty much occupied with building, playing and writing.

I'll quit building when the build quality begins to suck or when I run out of room for stuff I build.  One of the two is bound to happen sooner or later.

Hi Rick - run out of room - I’ve started donating to charities for fundraisers, clears out a few; build quality begins to suck - yeah I’d think it’s not fun at that point.

When I feel like it. And right now I don't feel like it.

When I am no longer physically able.

Simple reason that applies to  how I live my life too. When it ceases to be FUN. If it's not enjoyable there really isn't any sense spending time to do it. Besides, I still have a bunch of boxes to build with. ;)>
