This video listed helps explain well.
I would suggest you first wire everything as your supposed to just to see how it works out. You may already have one pickup that is RWRP and not be aware of it. Then you can change the wires if you don't like the result. Some people like that out of phase tone or can make good use of it and some don't. If switching the wires don't help, then you'll need another pickup that is RWRP. If the pickup has a bar magnet glued across the bottom, you can cut through the glue and flip the magnet over to reverse the polarity of the pickup.
On your switch issue, The switch can be on/on, on/off/on or on/on/on. usually the switch will have marking on the side or on the package that will tell you. Basically the pickup's hot wires will go to a outer leg of the switch and the other pickup to the other outer leg. Center leg goes to the volume pot.
If the switch is on/on/on, then you can you either pickup or both when playing. If the switch is on/off/on, both pickups will be silent. ON/ON switch just lets you use this one or that one.
Hope all this helps and don't let it intimidate/frustrate you. we can help with whatever comes up.
Always good to know every little thing before you start. That way, you know what to do when a problem arises so it can be solved the right way.
Some people just slap things together. After-all, they have a 50% chance of getting it right. But if it doesn't, then they can make it worse trying to fix it the wrong way.
I don't mind helping out and others here are like minded.
So both pickups are stopping after a while or just one?
That could be a pickup issue a cable issue or a amp issue. Do you have another cable and amp to test on to rule those out?
Well we know it's not a cable issue. Look over all the places that were soldered to make sure you have a good solder joint. If the solder is balled up - no good. look for broken wires that could be touching now and then(could be at a soldered joint or in the insulation).
Output jack could be shorting out. Could be an issue in the amp. Not likely that both pickups are bad.
It did find a dodgy connection eventually, and as long as i put my Blackstar amp in manual mode it seems ok but in other sound modes it doesn,t like the guitar at all.
I.m going to hack an old radio, with a jack socket, and try it on that.
Beginning to wish i hadn,t given away my little practice amps now, but i suppose next time i see a beginner strugglingwithout kit i will still probably do the same again.
Thanks for your response.
Phil
You could have a amp problem. Is this your only guitar? If this problem only happen on your CBG, then it has to be confined to your CBG.
Can you post some pics of your CBG's wiring?
