Uncle Gus: Thievin' Blues (Front Porch Music 07-26-12)

THIEVIN' BLUES
==============
Now I ain't a good man
I never made an honest dime
I ain't a good man
Never made an honest dime
I make my living on the run
And I been thievin' all my life

I used to run with burglars
We took what we could find
I used to run with a band of burglars
We took what we could find
Busted in people's houses
Up and down the county line

I been from Rollin' Fork to Bentonia
New York to California
This devil's been down to George
I even been to Winnipeg

And I ain't a good man
I never made an honest dime
I make my living on the run
I been thievin' all my life

Now I had me a woman
Way down in Birmingham
I had me a woman
Way down in Birmingham
She took my last six hundred dollars
And went back to her other man

-----

The bit about running with a band of burglars is actually sort-of-true in a roundabout way...about 14 years ago, I was in a punk band called The Burglars.

Bug: three string fretless biscuit tin guitar. It sounds really banjo-like, though, which is why this is one of my favorites (despite the mile-high action).

Much gratitude to all.

Jim: You know, I never thought I'd experience something coming out of a cookie tin that I liked more than the actual cookies, but I've gotta admit - I think I like the sound of the tins more than the cigar boxes. Jus' don' tell nobody I said that.

Gus, I'm 'gotta warn ya'.   The Winnipeg line is funny and good.   The whole song is good.

Thanks for the kind words, everyone!

UJ: I went with "Winnipeg" because I couldn't think of a word that rhymed less with "California," etc.

If I could click like four times I would do so.  I love the lyrics and song.  Wish I had wrote them!   Well maybe not the Winnipeg line!!!!   But it made the audience laugh and me too.

Nice, polished performance too.
