Tilly, Prose Mary and The Diamond Jack
1.The evening sun was shining, through the window of the last card game in town
Uncle John he had a straight flush, and everyone was putting money down
Mary wrote a poem, she could sense that thing weren't right
One man he was chiming, he'd drawn diamonds near all night
Nobody was smiling, except maybe the Diamond Jack

2. Uncle John he put his cards down, there were gasps of resentment in the air
The word was going 'round, that the way he played might not be fair
Tilly put her drink aside, and tried to calm things down
Uncle John he stood up, as someone fired a round
No one knew for sure, but folks were looking to the Diamond Jack

3.The Diamond Jack was smiling, he'd never told a soul from whence he came
Some said he was raised by wolves, other that selling watches was his game
Tilly she had fancy clocks, that you could not buy in town
And she had one in particular, that was gold just like a crown
But Prose Mary's pen was flashing, and rhyming at the Diamond Jack

4. Cousin Vinnie he came in staggering, leaned on the bar, and stole the nearest drink
The Bartender he was wary, he was looking now at Tilly, by the sink
Tilly dropped the glass she held, it crashed down to the floor
Vinnie never looked around, he was strung out on drink and more
He was singing a song he wrote, about Tilly and the Diamond Jack

5. Vinnie never heard felt the knife, and the Diamond Jack he was standing out of range
It wasn't him took Vinnie's life, he was too busy playing the waiting game
Prose Mary she did cry out , for her one and only love
Tilly she was laughing, she was never one to bluff
Mary she was sighing, and looking at the Diamond jack

6. The clock was chiming midnight, as Jason took the bodies way downtown
He wasn't chasing Diamond Jack, he'd heard of some fellow lawmen he'd gunned down
But something it was bugging him, and he had to check it out
407 Earp Way, was the adresss now going 'round
He could do with that State reward, on Lilly and the Diamond Jack

7. It was quieter than a ghost town, and Jason was prowling like a cat
His momma she had taught him well, to stalk, and to keep on looking back
A shadow just behind him, caused him to duck down
The shot it danced a ricochet, and caught Lilly through her gown
She'd been heading up to Earp Way, hoping to see the Diamond Jack

8. Lilly she was buried, lowered down beside poor Uncle John
He'd never had much fun in life, so they thought he might have some fun now he was gone
Prose Mary wrote the Eulogy, her iambic lines they flowed
Reeds Taylor interrupted her, and she punched him on the nose
No one else went looking,- looking for the Diamond Jack

9. It might have been some time ago, but for many folks, the legend still lives on
Mary she howls at the moon, and polishes old watches until dawn
Tilly she made heaven, and uncle John did too
Cousin Vinnie he's still waiting, with his SwampWitch, in the queue
Nobody knows the truth of it all, excepy maybe the Diamond Jack

10.My story it is ended, I got it from the vaults of Gramp MacBlues
He died an old pan handler, but the gold he found it would not even buy his
shoes
And down in Nappa Valley, if you listen close at night
You can hear an old car engine, and a wolf that sings in flight
Some folks say its just the wind, but I know its the Diamond Jack
