Man Of Constant Sorrow cover by Ron on Cigar Box Guitar 2010_04_04_11_39_10

This is my feeble attempt at a great song on my first home made cigar box guitar. I had the thing tuned open g which is way too high for my voice. So then I tried to tune to open d but broke one of my strings and realized I was not gonna be able to do that, so I found another tuning, A D A and that sounds righter for my voice. Hope to get to re-record it this evening with the lower tuning and get a better sound. But I'm very proud of my cbg. I am already plannin' my next build and the improvements I'm gonna make over this one.

Great!!! Nice job!

Regarding slides - I (purely by necessity) started off with a spark plug socket, then tried a shorter one. As it turns out, Shane says he uses a socket in one of his instructional video (wish I'd have watched those first). They are nice and heavy which gives off a pretty good sound.

...I'm still blown away by Chris' Bic lighter :)

To be honest the slide I am using now was a gift from a You Tube friend that thought it would sound better than the Bic lighter I had been using. I would try a local music shop, or (dare I say it) Guitar Center. They have a big selection of slides at the one here in town. You might have luck there.

Thanks Christopher, I'm anxious to build my next which will be a 4 stringer. Where can I get a decent slide? I've tried a thin glass one from a music store, I've tried a piece of white pvc pipe which is what I'm usin' in the video, I've tried a thin copper one from a hardware store and I've actually built my own from a wine bottle but it was too big around.

Thanks for the nice comment about the shirt. I got many, many great Hawaiian shirts from the local thrift shops and good wills. And the weather here in South Alabama finally got decent enough to wear'em. The song need some work though. The key's too high for me, I don't know the words to the song and barely know the tune well enough to attempt it. But I just figured out yesterday evening I could tune to A D A and get it low enough to where I wouldn't have to strain so hard for the high notes.
